Foraging South Africa's Forests: Unveiling the Fungal Tapestry with Harmonic Mycology

Making Medicinal Mushrooms Accessible

Harmonic Mycology was founded in 2015 as a vehicle for mycological development and the need to bring medicinal mushroom products available to the people of South Africa. These products are designed to foster greater physical, psychological and spiritual health. Functional fungi can help us find confidence through building biological resilience to stressors and maintain optimal health while navigating through the challenging and uncertain times of the modern era.

Expanding Mycological Knowledge & Engagement

The second pillar of our work is intended to expand human engagement with fungi through teaching wild mushroom identification and the technical skills required to cultivate a vast range of beneficial fungi. These skills are aimed to empower individuals and further establish mycology as a mega-science with citizen-scientist contribution in Southern Africa and beyond. This can help us further preserve and sustainably utilize our native and endemic fungi by keeping a culture library and combating potential over harvest and exploitation of our biodiversity.

Innovating with Mycelial Technologies

Finally, Harmonic Mycology aims to engage more deeply in myco-remediation and myco-materials, bringing sustainable and restorative solutions to ecosystems and industry through the application of mycelial technologies. Further research and development will be devoted to bleeding edge advancements in human-fungal relations for biotechnology developments.
